The group is involved in the developing multiphysics CFD solvers based on the OpenFOAM libraries for the aerospace industry. Some of the development include a density-based solver for high speed aerodynamics; a quadratic modal (FSI) solver for the prediction of flutter; and a multiphase solver for modelling dynamic liquid-gas sloshing.

High speed aerodynamic solver (HiSA):

  • Coupled, density-based solver
  • NS equations extended to ALE for FSI
  • Preconditioned, iterative Krylov solver accelerate implicit solution
  • Cell-centered FV implementation of AUSM and HLLC to approximation convective fluxes
  • RANS (SA and k-w SST) to compute viscous terms
  • Riemann or characteristic boundary conditions for farfield approximation

Multiphase VOF solver (Helyx Hydro):

  • Coupled, density-based solver
  • NS equations extended to ALE for FSI
  • Preconditioned, iterative Krylov solver accelerate implicit solution
  • Cell-centered FV implementation of AUSM and HLLC to approximation convective fluxes
  • RANS (SA and k-w SST) to compute viscous terms
